ARTIST STATEMENT:
This artwork is from 'The Sidekicks' Collection. All of the work was inspired by a line in a song; "even the bravest lion needs a sidekick."...

What is a Sidekick exactly?
(sīd'kĭk'): a close companion, pal, comrade, buddy, friend or cobber. In fiction the term sidekick most commonly referred to assistants to heroes. The sidekick has the artistic function of playing against the hero, often contrasting in skill, asking the questions the reader would ask, or performing functions not suited to the hero.
They have big responsibilities! A shoulder to lean in to or cry on to. A buddy that always has your back and will hold your hand when you need it. They can be a sounding board to test ideas with. A safe harbour and cuddle factory.

All the artworks feature black and white animals as they are my favourites. But I won't tell you if they or the girls are the sidekicks...!
